Shopping Cart Covers - Suddenly hot items!

In the last 2-3 weeks we have seen a major increase in the number of orders for Shopping cart and high chair covers. We are not sure if the current flu scare has parents more concerned about protecting their babies and toddlers from potential germs that may be on public carts and seats or if our site has just been discovered as a great source for shopping cart covers...either way, we are glad to see it. When our little boy was smaller, we used one consistently....not just for the protection from germs, but also because it softened his surroundings, keeping the sharp edges and pinch-points out of the way.

If you are considering a cover, be sure to buy one that can be used for both shopping carts and commerical high chairs that are in most restaurants. There is no need to purchase two covers when one good one will take care of all your needs. Check out the selection of functional and fashionable covers that we have at Journey2Baby.com

Giving Back

Amy and I are the parents to one very active 6 yr old boy. We feel very, very blessed that he runs around the house generally creating havoc and having fun. For a two week span right before his birth, we were not sure that he would be walking or running at all. During a routine ultrasound, a spinal defect was detected and diagnosed as spina bifida. After a couple of very frantic and scary days, it was determined that his defect, although a problem, would not result in any brain damage as is the case many times with spina bifida. However, we were told to expect nerve damage and to be prepared for the reality that he might not be able to walk. Many, many prayers were said by us and a large number of people around the us (prayer grapevines reach long distances and have many branches). When Coley was born, it was obvious that he could move his legs and should be able to walk. After some spinal surgery at 5 months, and some physical therapy for a couple of years, Coley is about as normal as 6 yr olds get. We truly count ourselves among those who have been blessed by God.

We have decided to make a contribution of 10% of all our sales at Journey2Baby.com to the Spina Bifida Association of America. This organization does a great job in the education of the general public about this birth defect. Our thanks to them and all those who volunteer in this wonderful organization.

Maternity Clothes

Due to many requests from customers and potential customers, we decided to add a few maternity lines to our offerings. While making the decision to branch out to this new area, we tried to make sure that the new lines were also "unique" in the sense that they would not be something that is on every site or in every store in every town. We found exactly what we were looking for with [BUMP] Maternity wear. This line features dresses, tees, tanks, and pants...all with wonderful style and a flair for fun. Check out this new line of Maternity wear here.
As always, all orders over $100 ship free.
Let us know what you think of the new offering!

Top Baby Gifts of 2009

Well...the first quarter of 2009 is already in the books. It is hard to believe that the year is moving along so quickly. We just wanted to take a minute and relate some of the hottest trends that we have seen in our sales so far in 2009.

1. Our biggest sellers continue to be the themed / Funny onesies. We are very fortunate to be a vendor for Snugfits onesies and they use quality products, have great variety, and the prices are among the best in this type of market. The biggest sellers so far this year have been the "Dude" and "Toothless and Ruthless" patterns. We did give some friends of ours the "Grande Finale" pink/black onesie at a baby shower last week and it was the hit of the shower. They have a 14 yr old girl and a 10 yr old boy...so they hope that this new addition is truly the "grand finale"!
Check out these wonderful baby shower gifts here.

2. The best selling new item has to be the Digital Pregnancy Scrapbook. This USB flash drive has preloaded software (PC only for now...sorry Mac users) that allows you to journal your pregnancy, capture photos, video, audio (it will be great to share what songs were popular in about 15 yrs!), and it is loaded with questionaires, polls, etc. We have been amazed at how popular these have been with our customers. Check them out...they are on sale till 4/30/09.

3. Always one of our more popular items are the shopping cart / high chair covers. We have a great selection of these and they truly do help protect your baby from so many germs and also from the hard/sharp edges on many shopping carts. We would not have left home without ours when our little boy was a baby. Makes a Great baby shower gift. View our selection.

Check back often as we are always adding more product lines to our store. We have just added the very popular Baby K'tan baby slings and within the next week, we will be adding Babylegs arm and leg warmers.

New Product Alert - Organic Crib Mattresses

Most mattresses are made of PVC, polyester, foam. They are then doused with flame-retardant chemicals and PBDE's. These chemicals have been banned by the state of California and this ban was emplemented in 2008. There are legitimate reasons for this ban. We at Journey2Baby.com understand that you would not want your infant sleeping on these chemicals. You can buy organic and guarantee that your baby will not be exposed to chemicals that have been proven to reduce breathing and are implicated in SIDS. Your baby spends many, many hours sleeping on their crib mattress...breathing the chemicals that escape from all PVCs and Foam products. To research further just go online and search for PBDE's.
Check out the Organic Crib Mattress selection that we now have available on Journey2Baby.com.

As always, orders over $100 ship free, so these can be delivered to your door with no shipping charges.

Organic Baby - Why it makes sense

There is so much in the news these days about going "green" and "organics". If you are an expectant or new parent, I am sure that you have seen many organic products for your baby. However, does it really make a difference to raise an "organic baby"? When our little boy was born, we tried to use organic products as part of our routine, but I never really understood why.
Over the past couple of months, we have began adding organic baby products to our lines. During this time, I have read more and I now understand why this movement is so important to our babies and to our environment.
Here are just a few nuggets of information that I have become aware of:

  • Over 60% of babies currently suffer from diaper rash in their first twelve months. This has increased from 7% to 60% since the advent of conventional disposable diapers. It is shown in studies that babies using organic cotton diapers are much less likely to suffer from this painful rash.

  • Conventional Cotton represents less than 4% of all crops grown worldwide, but is responsible for over 25% of the chemical pesticides and fertilizers. In the US alone, over 750 million pounds of these chemicals will be introduced into the environment just as a result of cotton farming. Half of these chemicals used in traditional cotton farming are potential or known carcinogens.

  • Organic Cotton is a crop grown naturally..using methods and materials that have a low or no impact on the environment. It is grown without the use of toxic pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. The organic cotton plant is also free of genetically engineered seeds.

These few tidbits of information should be enough to convince you to make a small effort to improve your buying habits.....protect your organic baby and the environment at the same time!
